Bargaining Update February 12, 2025

Dear members of CUPE Local,

As I’m sure you’ve heard, the members voted overwhelmingly in favour to strike:

94.5% have voted IN FAVOUR OF STRIKE

561 Votes Cast

530 YES

31 NO

This does not mean that we are going on strike tomorrow, the Strike Committee will be meeting tomorrow night (Feb 13) to strategize how we go forward and it all depends on how Formal Mediation plays out tomorrow.

*Report to work until further notice*

You are going to hear mixed messages from the government, the CBE, and coworkers. If you have any questions, please respond to this email (cupe40president@gmail.com) and I will provide you with all the answers I can.

At the table today we did submit a counter proposal to the CBE’s Bargaining Committee and we’ll be expecting a response tomorrow (Feb 13):

CBE/Government’s Offer we received February 5, 2025:
3%,  3%,  2%,  2%

Local 40’s Counter Offer proposed today:

September 1, 2024, $3.50 per hour for each level and classification.

September 1, 2025, $3.50 per hour for each level and classification.

The Government’s mandate is just that, a mandate, it’s not a pattern.

In Solidarity,

Clay Gordon

CUPE Local 40, President
